Vayona Energy has unveiled its 5 MW Vayona 5.0/193 wind turbine platform at Windergy India 2026 in Chennai, featuring a 193-metre rotor and technology developed with Germany’s Aerovide GmbH.
Key Highlights
- Turbine platform – Vayona 5.0/193
- Rated capacity – 5 MW
- Rotor diameter – 193 metres
- Technology partner – Aerovide GmbH, Germany
- Launch location – Chennai, India
- Launch event – Windergy India 2026
- Target applications – Indian onshore wind projects, including low-wind sites
Vayona Energy is a leading integrated onshore wind energy platform and turbine manufacturer in India and South Asia, launched in December 2025 following the acquisition of Siemens Gamesa’s Indian and Sri Lankan onshore wind and service business.
The company has unveiled its next-generation Vayona 5.0/193, a 5 MW onshore wind turbine platform, at Windergy India 2026 in Chennai. Featuring a 193-metre rotor, the platform is designed to improve energy capture across India’s diverse wind conditions, including low- and ultra-low-wind sites.
Vayona 5.0/193: Key Specifications
The new turbine has a rated capacity of 5 MW and a rotor diameter of 193 metres. Developed in collaboration with Germany-based Aerovide GmbH, the platform aims to combine advanced turbine engineering with Indian manufacturing capabilities and local service support.
The larger rotor is designed to capture more wind energy at suitable sites, potentially improving electricity generation. However, actual output will depend on wind speeds, hub height, turbine configuration and site-specific conditions.
Designed for Indian Wind Conditions
Vayona Energy is targeting India’s varied wind regimes and high-temperature operating environments. The platform is intended to support standalone wind projects, wind-solar hybrid developments and renewable energy solutions for commercial and industrial consumers.
The company is also focusing on domestic manufacturing and local supply chains, which could support India’s wind energy manufacturing ecosystem and reduce reliance on imported equipment.
Digital Technology and Maintenance
The Vayona 5.0/193 is being developed with digital twin-enabled capabilities integrated with the company’s Remote Operations Centre (ROC). These technologies are intended to support continuous performance monitoring, early identification of equipment issues and predictive maintenance.
Such capabilities could help operators improve maintenance planning, reduce avoidable downtime and manage operating costs throughout the turbine’s lifecycle. Commercial performance data and quantified maintenance savings for the new platform have not yet been disclosed in the cited launch report.
Expansion of Vayona’s Wind Portfolio
The launch expands Vayona Energy’s portfolio beyond its existing 3.X turbine platform. The company has reported that its existing platform has secured more than 3 GW in contracts, with over 2 GW installed, more than 1.2 GW commissioned and average fleet availability of approximately 98%. These figures relate to the existing platform, not the new 5 MW turbine.
The commercial impact of the Vayona 5.0/193 will depend on testing, certification, customer orders and performance in operating projects. Nevertheless, its launch marks a significant product-development milestone as India continues to expand its renewable energy capacity and strengthen domestic wind turbine manufacturing.
