New platform to develop a portfolio of more than 3 GW of solar, onshore wind and battery energy storage assets across India
Actis has launched Leo Energies, its fourth renewable energy platform in India, with a target to build a portfolio of more than 3 GW of onshore wind, solar and battery energy storage system (BESS) assets. the new platform continues Actis’ established buy-and-build strategy in India, following its earlier renewable-energy platforms Ostro Energy, Sprng Energy and BluPine Energy.
Actis said it has deployed approximately US$1.5 billion of equity capital in India’s energy sector, building or operating nearly 10 GW of installed generation capacity.
Leo Energies Builds Initial 650 MWp Solar Pipeline
Leo Energies has signed agreements to acquire approximately 650 MWp of solar capacity, with the projects expected to be operational at the time of acquisition. So far, around 160 MWp of generation capacity and 50 MWh of BESS projects have closed.
This includes the acquisition of 110 MWp of generation capacity and 50 MWh of BESS from TrueRE Oriana Power, an integrated clean-energy platform operating across renewable energy, battery storage and green fuels.
The broader ~650 MWp solar portfolio is spread across Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.
The projects are supported by long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs) with a mix of central offtakers, state distribution companies (DISCOMs), and commercial and industrial (C&I) customers.
Solar, Wind and Storage at the Core
Unlike a conventional renewable-generation platform focused primarily on solar and wind, Leo Energies is targeting battery storage alongside renewable generation.
The inclusion of BESS is significant as India’s power system accommodates increasing volumes of variable renewable generation. Energy storage can support renewable integration and enable electricity generated during periods of high renewable output to be used when demand or system requirements are different.
Leo Energies is also expected to pursue opportunities across both utility-scale and C&I renewable-energy markets. Actis said the platform has further acquisitions and greenfield PPA auctions in its near-term pipeline.
Leo Energies represents the fourth iteration of Actis’ renewable-energy platform strategy in India. The firm previously developed Ostro Energy and Sprng Energy, while its current platform BluPine Energy has already surpassed 3 GW of capacity since its launch in 2022.
The launch of Leo Energies therefore adds another large-scale platform to Actis’ India renewable portfolio and reflects the investment firm’s continued focus on the country’s long-term clean-energy growth.
India’s Renewable Energy Market Continues to Expand
India’s renewable-energy sector has expanded rapidly in recent years. According to Actis, India’s renewable installed capacity reached 251 GW in 2025, up from 176 GW in 2023. The country is targeting 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030.
The company also highlighted the growing commercial and industrial renewable-energy market, supported by increasing corporate demand for clean electricity and the expanding pool of bankable renewable-energy offtakers.
For Leo Energies, this creates opportunities across utility-scale generation, C&I power supply, acquisitions, greenfield projects and battery storage.
Key Takeaway
The launch of Leo Energies strengthens Actis’ position in India’s renewable-energy market and establishes another platform targeting 3 GW+ of solar, wind and battery storage capacity.
With approximately 650 MWp of solar acquisitions already signed, 160 MWp of generation and 50 MWh of BESS closed, and additional acquisitions and greenfield opportunities in the pipeline, Leo Energies is positioned to scale across India’s utility and C&I renewable-energy segments.
