Adani Energy Solutions has won a ₹4,700 crore Maharashtra transmission project to evacuate up to 4,500 MW of renewable and storage power.
Adani Energy Solutions Limited (AESL), formerly known as Adani Transmission Limited, is India’s largest private-sector power transmission and multidimensional energy company. The company has secured a ₹4,700 crore transmission project in Maharashtra to facilitate the evacuation of up to 4,500 MW of renewable and storage power, strengthening the state’s transmission infrastructure and supporting the integration of large-scale clean energy.
The project, officially named “Network Expansion Scheme in Western Region to Cater to Pumped Storage Potential near Satara (up to 4,500 MW) – Part A,” was awarded through the Tariff Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) process, with AESL emerging as the lowest bidder. The project will be implemented through the special purpose vehicle Satara Power Transmission Ltd. and is scheduled for completion within 36 months.
According to AESL, the project is designed to evacuate renewable energy generated in Karnataka towards major load centres in Maharashtra while supporting the growing pumped-storage ecosystem around Satara, Pune and the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
The planned transmission infrastructure includes a 765/400 kV substation at Satara, a 765 kV double-circuit Kolhapur–Satara transmission line, augmentation of the Kolhapur pooling station and associated transmission facilities.
The project will add approximately 562 circuit kilometres (ckm) of transmission lines and 9,000 MVA of transformation capacity to AESL’s portfolio. Following its addition, AESL’s cumulative transmission network is expected to reach 29,739 ckm, while its transformation capacity will rise to 143,425 MVA. The company’s transmission order book stands at around ₹85,000 crore, according to the company’s announcement.
The Satara project comes as India expands renewable generation and increasingly requires high-capacity transmission and storage infrastructure to integrate variable solar and wind power. Pumped-storage projects can provide grid flexibility by storing electricity during periods of surplus generation and supplying power during periods of higher demand.
For Maharashtra, the transmission scheme is significant because it combines renewable-energy evacuation, pumped-storage integration and high-voltage grid expansion in a single infrastructure program.
