India’s leading diversified energy, renewables, and infrastructure company Jakson Group plans to invest ₹6,863 crore in an integrated solar manufacturing facility in Andhra Pradesh’s Kurnool district, expanding its presence across the domestic solar supply chain.
The proposed plant will be developed by Noida-based Jakson Integrated Solar in Meedivemula village. According to reports, the Andhra Pradesh State Investment Promotion Board (SIPB), chaired by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, has recommended allotting 290 acres for the project.
The facility will have a planned manufacturing capacity of 10 GW for silicon ingots and wafers and 5 GW for solar cells. The project is expected to be developed in three phases and generate employment for approximately 2,000 people.
First Phase Targeted for May 2028
The first phase of the project will include 3 GW of silicon ingot and wafer manufacturing capacity and 3 GW of solar cell capacity. Commercial production from this phase is targeted to begin in May 2028.
The remaining manufacturing capacity is scheduled to come online by 2030. The company has not disclosed the detailed commissioning schedule for the subsequent phases.
The investment will expand Jakson Group’s manufacturing operations beyond solar modules into upstream components. The company currently operates a 1.2 GW solar module manufacturing facility in Greater Noida.
Silicon ingots and wafers are essential intermediate materials used in solar cell production, while solar cells are the core components of photovoltaic modules. Establishing manufacturing capacity across these segments can help strengthen domestic supply-chain integration.
Andhra Pradesh Expands Solar Manufacturing Ambitions
The proposed investment comes as Andhra Pradesh seeks to establish itself as a major solar manufacturing hub. The state’s Integrated Clean Energy Policy, 2024, set a target of 20 GW of solar manufacturing capacity across the value chain.
According to SIPB documents cited in reports, previously approved projects, excluding Jakson’s proposal, account for 58.74 GW of solar cell and module manufacturing capacity and 48 GW of silicon ingot and wafer capacity.
These figures represent approved project capacities and should not be interpreted as fully operational capacity.
Andhra Pradesh HRD, IT and Electronics Minister Nara Lokesh said the state aims to develop a world-class solar manufacturing ecosystem supported by research, innovation and a skilled workforce.
Jakson Group’s proposed ₹6,863 crore investment would add to the state’s growing pipeline of solar manufacturing projects. If implemented as planned, the facility could strengthen domestic manufacturing capabilities across multiple stages of the solar value chain, with the first phase targeted for commercial production in May 2028.
