Juniper Green Energy Commissions 100 MWh BESS in Bikaner, Total Capacity Reaches 201 MWh

  • Company – Juniper Green Cosmic Private Limited
  • Location – Bikaner, Rajasthan
  • commissioned Capacity – 100 MWh
  • Total BESS Capacity – 201 MWh
  • Project Structure -Operate on Merchant Basis
  • Power Supply – CTU

Juniper Green Energy has commissioned an additional 100 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at its Bikaner-II project in Rajasthan, increasing the project’s aggregate commissioned storage capacity from 101 MWh to 201 MWh. The additional capacity has been commissioned through the company’s wholly owned subsidiary, Juniper Green Cosmic Private Limited.

100 MWh BESS Added at Bikaner-II

According to Juniper Green Energy, the newly commissioned 100 MWh BESS has been integrated within the project’s existing grid connectivity. The company said the deployment leverages recently issued regulatory clarity from the Central Transmission Utility of India (CTUIL), allowing additional storage capacity to be added without increasing the project’s grid-connectivity quantum.

The approach enables greater utilization of existing transmission infrastructure while allowing the developer to expand its energy-storage capacity.

Additional Storage to Operate on Merchant Basis

The newly added BESS capacity will initially operate on a merchant basis, giving Juniper Green Energy an opportunity to participate in India’s evolving power market.

Merchant BESS projects can potentially participate in applications such as energy-market arbitrage, grid balancing and ancillary services, depending on market conditions and applicable regulations. Juniper had previously fully commissioned its initial 100 MWh merchant BESS at Bikaner in January 2026 after completing trial operations and receiving approval from the Northern Regional Load Dispatch Centre (NRLDC).

With the latest expansion, the Bikaner-II facility now has 201 MWh of commissioned BESS capacity.

The project highlights an emerging opportunity for renewable-energy developers to add battery storage while making greater use of existing transmission infrastructure.

For Juniper, the model provides an avenue to expand its storage portfolio without requiring a corresponding increase in grid connectivity for the additional storage capacity, according to the company.

This is particularly relevant as India’s renewable-energy capacity continues to grow and the power system requires greater flexibility to manage variable solar and wind generation.

Juniper’s Growing BESS Portfolio

Battery storage is becoming an increasingly important part of Juniper Green Energy’s renewable-energy strategy. The company says its portfolio includes solar, wind, hybrid, FDRE and BESS projects. As of September 15, 2026, Juniper reported a total portfolio of approximately 11,216 MWp across 52 projects, including BESS capacity across operational and under-construction projects.

The Bikaner expansion therefore adds to a broader strategy of combining renewable generation with energy-storage assets.
