ENGIE Commissions 450 MW Solar Projects in Rajasthan and Gujarat, Expands India Portfolio to 2 GW

ENGIE has commissioned its 250 MW Khaba solar project in Rajasthan and 200 MW Khavda solar project in Gujarat, adding 450 MW of operational renewable energy capacity to its Indian portfolio.

  • Total commissioned capacity – 450 MW
  • Khaba Solar Project – 250 MW – Rajasthan
  • Khavda Solar Project – 200 MW – Gujarat
  • Khavda power purchaser – GUVNL
  • Khavda PPA tenure – 25 years
  • Combined annual generation – 1,000 GWh
  • Local construction workforce – Approximately 80%
  • ENGIE India portfolio – 2 GW (operational + under construction)
  • BESS project – 280 MW/560 MWh.
  • Hybrid project – 200 MW solar + 100 MW/600 MWh BESS.

French energy major ENGIE has commissioned two solar power projects with a combined capacity of 450 MW in India, strengthening its renewable energy portfolio across Rajasthan and Gujarat.

The newly commissioned projects include a 250 MW solar power plant at Khaba in Barmer, Rajasthan, and a 200 MW solar photovoltaic project at Khavda in Gujarat. With both projects now operational, ENGIE has further expanded its presence in India’s renewable energy sector.

The commissioning milestone reflects the company’s continued focus on developing large-scale renewable energy assets while expanding its capabilities in battery energy storage and hybrid power solutions.

250 MW Khaba Solar Project Commissioned in Rajasthan

ENGIE has commissioned its 250 MW Khaba solar project in Barmer, Rajasthan, through its wholly owned subsidiary, Khaba Renewable Energy Private Limited.

The project is expected to generate approximately 650 GWh of electricity annually. According to the company, it will also help avoid nearly 180 kilotonnes of carbon dioxide emissions every year.

The project strengthens Rajasthan’s solar generation capacity and contributes to the state’s renewable energy development.

200 MW Khavda Solar Project Operational in Gujarat

The company has also commissioned its 200 MW solar photovoltaic project within the Khavda Renewable Energy Park in the Rann of Kutch, Near International Border, Gujarat.

Developed through Enren II Energy Private Limited, the project is contracted to supply electricity to Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL) under a 25-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA).

The project is expected to generate approximately 350 GWh of electricity annually, supporting Gujarat’s renewable electricity supply.

Together, the Khaba and Khavda projects are expected to generate approximately 1,000 GWh, or 1 TWh, of electricity annually.

ENGIE Expands India Portfolio with BESS and Hybrid Projects

With the commissioning of the two solar projects, ENGIE’s portfolio in India has reached approximately 2 GW of renewable energy capacity, including projects that are operational or under construction.

The company has also secured battery energy storage and hybrid renewable energy projects in India.

In November 2025, ENGIE secured its first battery storage project, with a capacity of 280 MW/560 MWh. Subsequently, in January 2026, the company secured a hybrid project combining 200 MW of solar capacity with a 100 MW/600 MWh battery energy storage system.

These developments highlight ENGIE’s strategy of combining renewable electricity generation with energy storage and flexible power solutions to support reliable, low-carbon electricity supply.

Local Workforce Supports Project Development

ENGIE stated that approximately 80% of the construction workforce involved in the two solar projects was hired locally.

The company highlighted that the projects contribute to regional economic activity and support local communities through employment opportunities and large-scale infrastructure development.

Commenting on the commissioning milestone, Pedro Vasconcelos, Executive Vice President in charge of Renewable and Flexible Power at ENGIE, said India remains a key growth market for the group.

He highlighted opportunities in corporate Power Purchase Agreements, renewable energy integration, advanced energy management and flexibility solutions.

ENGIE continues to expand its renewable energy presence in India, focusing on combining solar generation, battery storage and hybrid projects to address the country’s growing demand for reliable and low-carbon electricity.
