Powertrac Group has placed an order with China-based SUNKA LEAD for a proposed 10 GWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) manufacturing line in Gujarat, marking the company’s expansion from solar PV manufacturing, EPC and renewable-energy IPP operations into energy storage.
The planned facility will use an automated manufacturing architecture incorporating AI-driven production systems, Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs), robotic assembly, automated inspection and testing, and integrated BESS assembly and commissioning.
According to Powertrac Group, the production line is planned for Surendra Nagar district, Gujarat. Powertrac Chairman Kishorsinh Zala said machinery is expected to arrive by the third week of November 2026, with commercial production targeted for the third week of January 2027.
Powertrac Expands into BESS Manufacturing
Powertrac has operations across solar PV manufacturing, turnkey EPC and distributed renewable-energy IPP projects. The proposed 10 GWh BESS production line will add energy storage to this existing renewable-energy portfolio.
The company plans to address opportunities across utility-scale BESS, commercial and industrial (C&I) energy storage, renewable-energy integration, grid stabilization, ancillary applications and storage O&M services.
SUNKA LEAD has confirmed that the ordered production line will incorporate AGV-based material movement, robotic handling and assembly, automated inspection and testing, and integrated BESS manufacturing capabilities.
10 GWh Manufacturing Line in Gujarat
The planned production line is expected to assemble battery packs using prismatic lithium-ion cells and integrate them into containerized BESS systems.
Reported system sizes range from 10 kWh to 5 MWh, enabling the facility to potentially serve different customer segments, from C&I applications to larger energy-storage projects.
The facility is also planned to include in-house BESS container fabrication.
Commercial production is targeted for January 2027, following the expected arrival of manufacturing equipment in November 2026.
Powertrac’s Renewable-Energy Platform
The BESS expansion comes alongside Powertrac’s existing renewable-energy IPP business.
The company currently has 480 MW of distributed renewable-energy projects under signed PPAs, including projects associated with PM-KUSUM-C and Gujarat’s distributed renewable-energy procurement initiatives.
Powertrac has set a target of reaching 1 GW of operational IPP capacity by 2030 and has also stated a target of securing PPAs for 5 GW of IPP projects by 2030.
This existing renewable-energy platform could provide opportunities to combine Powertrac’s future solar projects with its own BESS solutions.
